Climbing reference in Spain

In recent years climbing has evolved to much more than just a pastime but has now become a trending sport, so much so that it has even been introduced to the Olympic Games in 2020! This is just one instance of the evolution of the sport. It is such a widespread phenomenon, this evolution which has seen huge growth worldwide! The same can be said for the market in Spain.
FEDME (Spanish Mountain and Climbing Federation) has stated that climbing is the most practiced sport in 2022. This has led them to reporting double the members in the last 10 years, with more than 273,000 in 2021. In the last 5 years they have reported an increase of 54% of participants, which is quite impressive! In recent year, many new climbing centres have opened, from big climbing infrastructures in big cities to smaller centres in the countryside.

With the increase of participants in the sport and the advent of the sport in the Olympic Games, there are now much more Pro Climbers around the world. Since the 2020 Olympic Games the climbing market has seen a considerable increase in activity, could this be directly linked to the introduction of the sport in the Games? Quite possibly so, but who could really say?

EP Climbing officially set up shop in Spain in 2014 with the World Championships Wall in Gijon. Since then, we have carried out roughly 50 projects with 50% of them being climbing centres such as La Reunion, Egurre (Basque Country) or Sputnik. EP Climbing is the official wall manufacturer for some of the more well-known chains such as Climbat, the first chain to open a climbing centre in France, Belgium, Switzerland and Spain), with the latest opening in Madrid at the beginning of May 2023.

To conclude, here is a brief interview with Bruno:

How long have you worked with EP Climbing?

How long have you worked with EP Climbing?

I’ve worked at EP since 2014. At the beginning, I was equipping competitions and some climbing walls, but I quickly started to get involved in the design of the structures and little by little I started to understand all the working parts of the process of implementation and manufacturing of the EAES. Each project is different and requires specific design processes for the optimisation of space and structure.

Why did you decide to work with EP Climbing?

Why did you decide to work with EP Climbing?

As a pioneer company in the sector with local manufacturing and all the necessary departments, I would be able to offer a better service to clients.
Working with EP has allowed me to consolidate my knowledge of building climbing walls all over the world and EP Climbing puts its knowledge into the development of new initiatives.
As a climber and nature lover, I enjoy working for a company that has environmental commitment as one of its core values.
