Originally built for the 2016 IFSC Climbing World Cup, these EP walls found a new life with a powerful mission: make climbing accessible to everyone. Boulder 21 is a free public climbing facility in Navi Mumbai, created in partnership with the local municipality, where beginners, students, and future champions can discover the sport without financial barriers.
Today, Boulder 21 is a thriving hub where talent is nurtured, confidence is built, and a new generation of climbers is inspired every day.
Boulder 21 demonstrates how climbing infrastructure can continue to create value long after a major event has ended. Originally built for the 2016 IFSC Climbing World Cup, the walls were repurposed to serve a completely different objective: providing free access to climbing for the local community.
Rather than remaining a temporary competition installation, the facility was transformed into a permanent public climbing space through a partnership with the local municipality. Today, climbers of all ages and backgrounds can experience the sport on infrastructure originally designed for elite-level competition, creating a unique connection between grassroots participation and high-performance climbing.
By removing financial barriers to participation, Boulder 21 plays an important role in expanding access to climbing in Navi Mumbai. The facility provides a welcoming environment where beginners can take their first steps in the sport, while more experienced climbers can continue to develop their skills.
Beyond the climbing walls themselves, Boulder 21 has become a community hub where confidence is built, talent is nurtured, and new opportunities are created. The project reflects a broader vision of climbing as a tool for inclusion, education, and personal development, helping inspire the next generation of climbers in India.
