WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CLIMBING WALLS ?

Climbing involves several diverse disciplines and styles suited for different building possibilities and customer experiences.

EP Climbing, formally Entre-Prises, has been manufacturing top-of-the-line climbing walls for over 35 years, including walls for the biggest international competitions. Interested in building a new climbing gym or adding new recreational equipment to a school or playground, EP Climbing has the solution for you!

BOULDER WALLS

Bouldering is an increasingly popular climbing discipline that is performed on shorter walls without the use of ropes or harnesses. Due to the lack of ropes, boulder walls measure approximately 4.5m tall, making them ideal for smaller climbing gyms or temporary additions for events, resorts, and competitions.

TOP ROPE WALLS

The most common form of climbing wall found in a climbing gym, top rope walls are an excellent option for both beginner and advanced climbers looking to improve their skills and endurance. On top rope walls, climbers are secured with a rope set at the top of the wall and a belayer at the bottom to take up the slack. Climbers also have the option to participate solo with the use of an auto-belay device.

LEAD CLIMBING WALLS

Lead climbing is a more advanced form of rope climbing that requires the climber to secure the rope to set anchors as they move up the wall. These difficult and overhanging walls are recommended for experienced climbers and are useful when training for longer outdoor routes or sport climbing competitions.

SPEED CLIMBING WALLS

As a strictly competitive sport climbing discipline, speed climbing walls are an excellent addition to gyms and training centres focused on hosting local, national, or international competitions. Speed climbing walls are available in two height options with two three-meter lanes each. The 10.5-meter wall is recommended for smaller buildings, recreation, and training sessions, while the 15-meter wall is used in international climbing competitions and is the only wall size approved for speed climbing world records.

TRAVERSE WALLS

This short boulder-style wall is made to be climbed horizontally instead of vertically above a thick safety mat, ensuring that children are never far off the ground. A traverse wall is a great way to introduce children to climbing and can be installed anywhere.

PLAYGROUND CLIMBING WALLS

Climbing walls and boulders in parks and playgrounds make climbing accessible to everyone regardless of age or skill level. Playground climbing walls are specially adapted for outdoor use and harsh weather conditions and can be designed to replicate real rock to encourage children’s imaginations.
